In dubstep, impact isn't all about contact. The most insistent examples of the genre – which began as part of the U.K.'s potent bass music scene — traffic in varying folds of coalesced tempos rather than consistently detonating kicks. And for every rhythmic peak, every seismic swell of low-end, there's an accompanying hollow, a bit of negative space, that resonates just as loudly. The Icee Hot party has been exploring these buzzworthy creases, as well as bass-line house, Afro-futuristic beats, and rumbled synths, in San Francisco for a year now. To celebrate that milestone, the club night will host Hyperdub labelhead, producer, and DJ Kode9 — a sonic philosopher as capable discussing ideological collectives as he is dropping zigzag vibrations that compel crowds. Low Limit, Ghosts on Tape, Disco Shawn, and Rollie Fingers join Kode9, who will be previewing woozy, insistent material from his upcoming album Black Sun.
