I Can't Even Reach Mine!

Wednesday, Nov 24 2010
Only two exist: The Golden Girls "The Christmas Episodes" is a San Francisco holiday fixture, but the wacky cult television show of the 1980s aired only two Christmas-themed shows. This presents problems as well as opportunities for the men who play the women -- Heklina, Pollo del Mar, Matthew Martin, and Cookie Dough bring their drag skills to bear, and they are supported by nondrag actors Laurie Bushman and Mike Finn. We've heard tell that the company has considered writing its own Christmas episodes, and we can't decide whether we're delighted or enraged. The plan is on hiatus anyway, since this year, a very special guest is joining the cast: Jane Wiedlin, formerly of the Go-Go's, is set to play Sophia's sister Angela in an episode called "Long Day's Journey Into Marinara." While visiting from Sicily and scaring up a pasta-bowlful of Mafia jokes, Angela, it seems, may be horning in on Sophia's boyfriend ("He's got his own hair, his own teeth, and a completely unrestricted drivers' license!") Could it be? Normally, the wigs at The Christmas Episodes compete only with the jeweled sweaters for supremacy, but with a Go-Go in age makeup, there's no telling which meatball comes out on top this year.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 7 & 9 p.m. Starts: Dec. 2. Continues through Dec. 23, 2010

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
