And you think your dad is weird: Consider Laura Truffaut. One of the many films her father, François, is famous for making about childhood is The Wild Child/L'Enfant Sauvage, a 1970 feature about a feral kid. The trailer is hilariously French, with a narrator rattling off stuff about the inherent innocence of children. "But once there was a child … " he intones. The fun part is watching Jean-Pierre Cargol, playing the kid, freak out, break dishes, and run on all fours; you root for him to escape the French. The film follows the research of Dr. Jean Itard (portrayed by Truffaut himself), whose real-life experiences and un-French kindness toward the kid inspired this fiction. As for Laura, she appears in person March 6 to celebrate a new 35mm print of The Wild Child, which many consider to be a companion piece to his immortal The 400 Blows.
