How San Francisco celebrated the 40th anniversary of Woodstock

Wednesday, Aug 19 2009

Last weekend was the 40th anniversary of Woodstock. How did San Francisco celebrate?

• Pretended Woodstock happened here instead of upstate New York.

• The Board of Supervisors passed a resolution commemorating the concert — finally giving it the recognition it deserves.

• Haight-Ashbury smelled even more like pot.

• Gavin Newsom claimed credit for Woodstock's success.

• We turned on, tuned in, and updated our Facebook status.

• Experimenting with drugs for heart disease

• Purchased free love

• Deadbolted the front door

• Supervisor Chris Daly accused Woodstock of not going far enough.

• Stoners dancing naked in Golden Gate Park finally had an excuse.

• Burned bras and adult diapers

• We all closed our eyes and pretended that we made some kind of difference in the '60s.

The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
