Everybodys favorite historic gay movie house pumps up the local laugh quotient this month, unveiling a new monthly series of live comedy programming, complete with rib-tickling comics, guileless Bay Area gender illusionists, and consistently distressing reality television personalities. Comedy in the Castro premieres tonight with a positively gladdening line-up: Loni Love, a regular guest on wisecracking television shows like the mean-spirited late-night roundtable Chelsea Lately and commentator for VH1s tender backward glance, I Love the '70s; Nene Leakes, larger-than-life reality facet of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, whose involvement in nuanced dramas at home and between other desperate housewives have thrust her into the American publics gentle spotlight; and Sasha Soprano local drag diva and producer of the event who interviews Leakes about her new book, Never Make the Same Mistake Twice. As if all of that isnt queeny enough, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence (including 20-year veteran Sister Roma), Mercedez Munro, and Willis Turner will be on hand to fan the flames with jibes of their own. Its a laugh riot fit for quipping queens, neighborhood nellies, and entertainment television acolytes alike.
