hot and bothered robots

San Francisco's favorite quirky robot dolls tick back to life when Anna and the Annadroids present Tantric Tantrums at the Garage. The theme is desire: how it sometimes juices up the circuits and sometimes shorts out the system. In six new dances with lurid cinematic projections by Alexi Alexaieff, the girls will roar out their darkest secrets while wearing their finest fishnets. With their thick lashes, ruby lips, and wigs, Anna and the Annadroids take artifice to an extreme. But don't let their goth aesthetic fool you: These robot dolls both play and work in a sisterhood of idiosyncratic humor and twisted cravings. In between the jitter and skitter of slightly loose gears, you'll witness the internal stillness and control of yogic arm balances in contrast to the dark suggestion of worlds spinning off orbit. Tantric Tantrums is sci-fi romance for the unsentimental, a sexual spectacle for the fearless.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
