Still Making the Yuletide Gay
Serious, moving, and wacky, the holiday performances of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus have long been a seasonal highlight. This year, the 300-member ensemble that is generally credited with starting the LGBT choral movement presents
HoliGays Are Here, a show of new work and seasonal standards, some performed with a comic twist. On the bill are compositions by Broadway and cabaret performers Ernie Lijoi and Lawrence Rush; a medley of Meghan Trainor’s “I’ll Be Home” and the oldie “I’ll Be Home For Christmas”; and a world premiere composition by Laura Karpman, set to text by Rebecca Walker, that salutes the mothers in our lives. Additional fare ranges from Nutcracker music to “Silent Night” to the contemporary “Text Me Merry Christmas.” Artistic director Timothy Seelig also promises us tutu-sporting reindeer and dancing recycle bins (for the fruitcakes nobody wants).
