Hilary Pecis: "Intricacies of Phantom Content," and Elyse Mallouk: "Trickle-Down: Yours for the Mining"
Triple Base, 3041 24th St. (at Treat), S.F.
Through July 26. Free; 643-3943 or www.basebasebase.com.
Pecis recently graduated from the California College of the Arts M.F.A. program, but she's already a veteran of the gallery scene. Her mixed-media collages have a feeling of inevitability, drawing simultaneously on San Francisco traditions of assemblage and psychedelia. Landscapes and caves made of undulating patterns are overlaid by a floating mass of diamonds or candlesticks or lipstick cases — a visionary universe of junk. In the basement, Mallouk's video installation creates a complementary cave of diamonds, a magic lantern show that casts the outlines of precious stones onto the walls, ceiling, and floor. You can make a diamond "mine" by taking one of a stack of free editioned prints.
