First lady in love

"I wish I could lie down beside you tonight and take you in my arms," wrote Eleanor Roosevelt in one of 2,336 letters she penned over the course of 30 years to journalist Lorena Hickok. Known as "Hick," the female Associated Press reporter became a friend, companion, and lover to the so-called "First Lady of the World." Roosevelt's secret lover is the star of a one-woman play researched, written, and acted by Terry Baum with playwright Pat Bond. Directed by Carolyn Myers, the set design by Vola Ruben incorporates reproductions of Roosevelt's handwriting. Hick: A Love Story: The Romance of Lorena Hickok & Eleanor Roosevelt provides a long-suppressed look at the life, love, and work of the spunky journalist who chronicled the Depression and served as chief investigator of the Federal Emergency Relief Administration and executive secretary of the Women's Division of the Democratic National Committee.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
