At SF Sketchfest in early 2010, New York-based Pakistani-American Kumail Nanjiani dished a story about a gig at which a heckler gave him a particularly hard time. This is difficult to believe, given Nanjianis command and his smart, high-energy, somewhat absurdist craft. This heckler happened to be the very same comedian who showed up late that night, insisting that he be added to the program. Said comedian interrupted Nanjianis set and grabbed a spare microphone to drunkenly inform him that he looks brown but sounds white. That comedian, readers, was pretty boy guitar picker John Mayer. Nanjiani has surged into the comedy spotlight in the 18 months since the incident, touring regularly and appearing on The Colbert Report and Portlandia. He also has a regular supporting role on TNTs Franklin & Bash.
