Hardly Strictly Warren Hellman

When: Thu., Sept. 18 2014
Anyone lucky enough to meet Warren Hellman, or see him perform at his signature cultural creation, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, witnessed the utter joy and humanity that emanated from his being (and his banjo). The Contemporary Jewish Museum assembles rarely-seen videos of Hellman's performances in Golden Gate Park, along with special personal possessions like a banjo signed by star performers and a jacket covered with rhinestones and a Star of David.

The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
