Grog Gluggin' Good Time

Wednesday, Jan 1 2014

Street food isn't the only thing moving upscale these days. Another hot trend among foodies and the "artisanal lifestyle" crowd is home- and locally-brewed beer. Enter the Bay Area Brew Festival. It features dozens of local breweries, as well as some of the city's best food trucks. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the beer festival is also a bit of a party. Their motto is "eat, drink, play," and an online video shows a variety of quirky characters dancing and flailing in costumes that range from super villains and school girls to dinosaurs and Olympians. No doubt some of that flailing was inspired by the unlimited beer that comes with the entrance fee. Participating breweries include Heretic, Southpaw, 21st Amendment, Calicraft, and Social Kitchen, with food trucks provided by Hapa, Bombzies BBQ, and Pizza Orgasmica, among others.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
