Even discounting its strings and choirs, Grizzly Bear's loudly heralded new album, Veckatimest, is constructed with enough majesty and precision to warrant nods to classical music. Though less opaque than its predecessor, Yellow House, Veckatimest swells on all sides, producing a wave of tranquillity that's more than the sum of the band's restrained, folk-descended songwriting and just-so production. After a few cautious spins, it's tempting to try to dissect every marvelous nuance. Why not save yourself the trouble and just watch the guys conduct their sweeping, multitasking sorcery live?
