GOOFY Professor

Wednesday, Jan 1 2014

What if your high school science class was taught by a cute guy who cracked jokes, and also you could drink alcohol during it? You'd look back a little more fondly on those chemistry sessions — although dissecting things and feeding the pet snakes in biology might've been a bit more risky if booze was involved. Tim Lee, who's got a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution from UC Davis and has branded himself as THE scientist-turned-comedian, is performing at the Punch Line this week. His comedy's been called "cerebral" more than once, and his act always includes real info, data, charts, and PowerPoints, so you get to use your brain while you laugh. Fun! His YouTube videos are highly popular, if you want a primer to get you geared up for the performance.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
