Good Help Is Hard to Find

Wednesday, Sep 22 2010
One of the first lessons taught in journalism school is be very nice to secretaries and administrative assistants. Getting in their good graces is crucial to anyone seeking access to business leaders or public officials, because they control a lot of what goes on in the world. We think this lesson would apply especially to the secretarial pool at Cooney Lumber Mill in Big Bone, Oregon. See, the women in The Secretaries are in league with one another. They have celibacy pacts and clandestine encounters. Did we mention they also have chainsaws? And they’re taking down the lumberjacks of Big Bone, one at a time? The campy and irreverent Secretaries was written by the Five Lesbian Brothers, who performed it themselves in 1994 in New York City. This production includes actors from the Crowded Fire Theater Co.
Wednesdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Oct. 6-9, 8 p.m. Starts: Sept. 23. Continues through Oct. 9, 2010

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
