Go Funch Yourself

Wednesday, Oct 23 2013

Comedian Ron Funches is a smiling, hilarious teddy bear. Just kidding, he's a man. But he's a round man and looks like he'd be great to hug. The self-professed black nerd believes that dressing like Cleveland from Family Guy is a terrible idea for black cosplay, while a Lando Calrissian costume is a totally smooth idea. There's no one else on the scene quite like Funches: He's a little bit aw-shucks, a little bit stoner, and always nails his timing on stage. Whether he's making observational jokes about how messed up the Muppet Babies theme song is or sharing an original rap he wrote with his autistic son called "Bacon and Oreos," his childlike voice and corresponding tone of incredulity come together to go down as smoothly as Colt 45.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
