Crappy Holidays to You
A tradition for those who like their holiday cheer rockin’ and boozy, the
Gibbsmo Holiday Craptacular is back. For more than a decade, Parker Gibbs, a 50-something former band manager and longtime music scene presence who owns thousands of records and loves to deejay, has been hosting the bash. Its unglamorous moniker is Gibbs’ way of saying that loads of stuff is on the slate. Basically, he invites musician friends — and he has lots of them — to perform in a revue-like show featuring holiday tunes, original material, and cover songs. In between performances, Gibbs takes the mic, and adds character to the evening without any inhibition. This year’s lineup includes the blues-rocking Parker Brothers, punk rocker Spike Slawson’s Uke Hunt project, the Weavers LLC (from
The Best Show), singer-songwriters Mark Eitzel and Chris Von Sneidern, and others — including surprises. It all benefits the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank, so attendees should bring a nonperishable food item.
