Ghislain Poirier and Daedelus

Wednesday, Jun 17 2009

Renowned electronica label Ninja Tune stays ahead of the intelligent dance music game with bills like this one, which teams up two of its artists — L.A. electronic beat composer Daedelus and Montreal DJ and producer Ghislain Poirier. As heard on his Live at the Low End Theory album, the Victorian-costumed Daedelus' compositions are dense and thumpy. He executes his music on the Monome, a recently developed sampler box with an interface of tiny light bulbs that makes the device look like a Modernist Lite-Brite. Poi-rier spearheaded Canada's uptempo "bounce" scene by deftly blending hip-hop, dub, and international breaks on records like his new Soca Sound System EP.

Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
