Its not clear whether fantasizing about opulence or grimly economizing is the prevailing approach for the people of San Francisco, but maybe we can do both at once. The 2009 San Francisco Decorator Showcase, housed in a no-one-from-Metallica-lives-here mansion, is an experiment in looking at the individual trees rather than the forest. Each participating artist designs a room or area to his or her own specifications, rather than adhering to a prescribed theme, so it promises to be a beautiful patchwork and a chance to drool. From formal-leaning garden design (Kate Michels Landscape Design) to modern interiors (Nicole Hollis, who commandeers the entry, staircase, and upper hallway), this single home exhibits a broad range of West Coast aesthetic flair. New to the event this year are Thursday night book-signings featuring showcase artists such as Orlando Diaz-Azcuy, Diane Dorrans Saeks, John Wheatman, Zahid Sardar, and Squeak Carnwath.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: April 28. Continues through May 25, 2009
