Getting It On Paper

From the Great Mistakes file: Chris McCaw was trying to do something involving long photographic exposures, but he spaced out. Thinking his now super-long exposure had ruined the image, he instead found that the sun, while burning the paper, had also made an interesting shape. The images in "Sunburned" are the result of repeating and tinkering with the process, which he now totally owns. Shot over dramatic landscapes, the path of the sun arcs, spots, or shoots a comet-like path through the sky, showing a sci-fi-like alternative to the information recieved by the human eyeball. Dark and shiny, the reversed negatives are each entirely unique -- McCaw also builds his own cameras.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
