At first glance, the Disposable Film Festival seems to exist because every film technology, just like every film genre, gets its own festival — this is a law in big cities like ours. But the DFF has something else under the hood: good films, at least good enough to require people like Dennis Klein, co-creator of The Larry Sanders Show, and Hawk Ostby, co-writer of Children of Men and Iron Man, to be included on the jury. As for what constitutes a “disposable” film, it’s all about the capture technology: Allowed devices include cell phones, security cams, screen capture software, digital still cameras, helmet cams, and what festival creators Eric Slatkin and Carlton Evans call “disposable video cameras” (for those who think $150 dropped on a Flip Mino is chump change). Tonight’s Big Event screens shorts in a variety of genres; Friday and Saturday feature filmmaker profiles, including work by New York film collective Red Bucket Films and indie guy Fritz Donnelly; and on Sunday, jury members, filmmakers, and experts talk shop in a panel discussion.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
