Factory farmings days are numbered. Michelle Obamas organic garden at the White House is pissing off chemical pesticide companies. Sometimes, it seems weve got the bad guys of food on the run. At the Walk for Farm Animals, participants raise money to keep two farms up, running, and providing a happy life for rescued cows, goats, chickens, and other dudes who would have been food. And looking at the Web site of sponsoring entity Farm Sanctuary reminds us why we care seriously, animals are cute and, you know, alive. Even if you choose to eat meat, you dont have to be okay with the gross conditions in a lot of agribusiness setups; theyre environmentally unsound and have rickety health regulations (beef recall, anyone?), among other problems. Farm Sanctuary works to reform the system via legislation and activism, in addition to taking in baby cows with heart-shaped spots on their foreheads.
