Four on the Floor

Wednesday, Jun 15 2011
Let’s get one thing out of the way: Vancougar was a band long before anyone even knew older women were so successful with younger men. Even so, the band’s four rocker chicks still don’t qualify as older women yet — there’s no joke to be made here; keep moving. The band’s CD Canadian Tuxedo is full of catchy, loud, garage-influenced pop; it’s sweet, fast, and bouncy. Vancougar’s sound is the result of frontwoman Eden Fineday’s unquenchable thirst for rock as well as the always-surprising strength of her vocals. Becca Stewart, Megan Johnson, and CC Rose back her up ferociously; their look is something like “the Runaways grew up but never sold out,” or “the mad Donnas.”

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
