Forever Young

Can ya dig it?

SAT-SUN 4/19-20

Childhood hasn't changed since 1950 at Children's Fairyland, the year the storybook-themed park opened. The place has entertained generations of kids through simple but proven means: low-budget puppet shows, gluey arts and crafts, unsettling dwarf statues, and the terror of the petting zoo. The beauty of this approach is that digital-era kids still have to use their imaginations to help supply the entertainment. This weekend, besides frolicking on the fantastical slides and structures and piping up at the shamelessly hokey "Insect Songs" sing-along (noon-3 p.m.), youngsters can partake in another rite of childhood: digging in the dirt. "Spring Flowers Day," a hands-on gardening workshop, is held at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. at Children's Fairyland, 699 Bellevue (at Grand), Oakland. Call (510) 452-2259 or visit Heather Wisner

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
