“Freedom Movement: Stories of People in Struggle” intends to share parts of the fight rights equality that books and photographs don’t fully capture. The local organization Bay Area Veterans of the Civil Rights Movement shares personal stories about the civil rights movement in order to illuminate — which reiterates just how recently in history this struggle was happening, and that time will eventually leave us with fewer and fewer who remember that time. This engagement takes place on the 50th anniversary of the “Children’s Crusade,” a four-day student march to raise awareness about segregation in Birmingham, Ala., that was met with arrests.

Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
