FLORILEGIUM at Scott Richard's Contemporary Art Recommended

When: Thu., Jan. 8 and Sat., Jan. 31 2015
David Smith
FLORILEGIUM
January 8 - 31, 2015
Opening Reception: Thursday, January 8, 5:30-7:30 pm
In FLORILEGIUM, his second solo exhibition at Scott Richards Contemporary Art, David Michael Smith returns to the theme of “our connection – and lack of connection – to nature.” Flowers play an essential role in this exhibition, almost upstaging the figures themselves. Oversized, lushly painted and richly colored, they seem to envelop the human subjects. The surfaces of the works are smooth and exquisitely painted, while the youthful figures are portrayed demure and vulnerable in contrast to the uncontrolled beauty of the huge flowers.
David Michael Smith was born and raised in the Bay Area, and his work can be found in many prestigious local and national private collections. For more information please contact gallery@srcart.com.

  • clipping at Brava Theater Sept. 11
Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
