In FLORILEGIUM, his second solo exhibition at
Scott Richards Contemporary Art, David Michael Smith returns to the theme of “our connection – and lack of connection – to nature.”
Flowers play an essential role in this exhibition, almost upstaging the figures themselves. Oversized, lushly painted and richly colored, they seem to envelop the human subjects. The surfaces of the works are smooth and exquisitely painted, while the youthful figures are portrayed demure and vulnerable in contrast to the uncontrolled beauty of the huge flowers.
