Fist Fam: Show Preview

Wednesday, May 4 2011

Maybe S.F. doesn't seem the natural home for a self-proclaimed "psychedelic country-rap" collective, but then this city is full of surprises. The members of Fist Fam are white-boy transplants from North Carolina who love this city and spin their honky musings into a head-nodding rap clatter. See the standout production on "S.F. Bay," where muted trumpet and tentative bass tangle under boostery lines like "This city feels right/Like fuckin' without a rubber." If it's all a little crude and cheap, well, that's part of the charm.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
