It’s not uncommon for girls to grow bored with a male-dominated music scene, which is why some choose to grab it by the plums -— Kathleen Hanna, anyone? It’s no different for Mexican feminist punk band Las Ultrasonicas, who most definitely grabbed the Mexico City scene by the cojones. The documentary Everybody’s Dying Here, shot and edited by Ultrasonicas guitarist Ali Gardoki, follows the band in its attempt to break stereotypes in the face of aggressive all-male audiences chanting “show me your boobs!” Following the film is a Q&A with Gardoki and KPFA’s Miguel Guerrero.
