The Brittany Murphy Story(Sept. 6, Lifetime)

Gravely-voiced and awkward, Murphy was the ultimate Hollywood outsider girl to gain mainstream success — the classic decadent Hollywood story of fame and misfortune. Lifetime Movies gives her life story the Lifetime Movies treatment, need we say more?

Real Time with Bill Maher Live From D.C.(Sept. 12, HBO)

He's been called the Limbaugh of the left, which means the right wing hates him as much as lefties hate Rush. But his HBO show is a weekly staple for many. "Bill Maher Double Dare" will feature his regular show live and then a live standup show, both from Washington, D.C.

Amish Haunting (Sept. 14, Destination America)

Living on an Amish farm isn't all pickup-sticks and bobbing for apples. Barn raisings turn hair-raising, apparently, in this show based on ye olde symple and playne ghost stories passed down from iPod-free people who have removed themselves from the rest of society.

Tim and Eric's Bedtime Stories (Sept. 18, Cartoon Network)

The offbeat comedy duo's kooky take on spooky stories continues in this parody of shows like Night Gallery and Creep Show.

Gotham (Sept. 22, Fox)

Featuring all the Batman characters as young men and women (Bruce Wayne, Catwoman, The Riddler, The Penguin), this promises to be a blueprint of all of those characters' burgeoning alienation and eventual dark transformation. Huzzah.

Mystery! Death Comes to Pemberley (Oct. 26, PBS)

An 18th century mystery based on the PD James' novel, which is itself based on the characters from Pride and Prejudice. The false masquerade of pomp and pretense continues to surround the married life of Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet ... speckled with death, of course.

Weekend Fix Wednesday (Oct. 29, Esquire)

The Esquire Network has been quietly churning out quality food and travel shows, and this one looks promising. Two dudes travel to exotic and interesting locales and use only social media to try and find the best spots that are underground or strictly local and not in the guidebooks.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
