There's always a fiesta at El Toreador. Chile peppers, bird cages, airplanes, and Mexican flags not only decorate the walls, but fill every nook and cranny of this family-friendly Mexican joint with a festive spirit. And it's not all show. We love the Maria Félix pinups and the assortment of 56 Latin American beers, but it's the heaping plates of plump, garlicky, Veracruz-style shrimp with peppery grilled onions that we rave about. It's the tingle on our tongue from a rich pumpkin-seed mole and the smokiness of the juicy carne asada that we remember most. Top it off with a decadent mango-passionfruit margarita, or maybe two -- El Toreador is only a few, happy stumbles away from the West Portal Muni station.

  • clipping at Brava Theater Sept. 11
Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
