Dry Heave

Wednesday, Apr 30 2014

Odds are, if you make art in this town, you are obsessed with money and how to get more of it. Dance, which juices every particle of the human from the rind of the body, demands everything from its practitioners, who, masochists all, are accustomed to expect little more than love for their labors. Liz Tenuto, whose fearless wit extends to mockery of the awards and funding machinery that keeps the city whirling and high-kicking in frenetic denial of the inherent tragedy of the genre, presents In the Velvet: A Full Bodied Dry Heave Set to Music for one night only. Six performers plot a heist to salvage themselves from the savage nature of the artist's life. Tenuto attacks the prostitution of performers and charges theaters with exploitation, making a stand for free expression in a private nightclub in the Mission.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
