Drug Out

Wednesday, Jul 23 2008
Installation artist Andy Diaz Hope loves drugs. Also, he hates drugs. Either way, he thinks they're pretty. Doesn't matter what kind: Herbs, powders, scrips, needles, and pills all find their way into his art. Working with Laurel Roth, Diaz Hope contriubutes a mixed media re-do of a chandelier to the collection of Current Exhibitions. The light fixture's crystals have been replaced by syringes and ropes of shiny capsules, and its metal parts have been aggressively chromed; it glitters. Other artists represented include Timothy Cummings and HalfLifers (Anthony Discenza and Torsten Z. Burns). We like them all, especially Sandow Birk's "Ten Leading Causes of Death in America" series of etchings.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
