Dream on

Wednesday, Dec 18 2013

Talk about a dream team: Among the three companies collaborating to produce Sea of Dreams are the creators of some of the city's best and most famous events. The SF Funk Festival, Outside Lands, and the Treasure Island Music Festival can all be traced back to this crew. It shows in the evening's lineup, where there is a little something for everybody — the global sound of headliners Thievery Corporation, the hip-hop influenced dance cuts of former DMC Champion and Kanye West DJ A-trak, and the unique mixture of R&B, new wave, and experimental music from the four-piece band and Questlove favorite Little Dragon. On top of all that, Sea of Dreams strives to be more than just a party. This year they've curated an "ocean of art" to adorn the walls of the auditorium, and visual stimulation will be provided throughout the night from Cirk-Elation!, Samba Stilt Circus and Cirquedelic. Sweet dreams, indeed.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
