Just Watch

Sure, it's not Los Angeles. Nor is it New York, but San Francisco does have its own thriving comedy scene that operates just a little bit under the radar. Much as you might follow your favorite local bands, there are comedy troupes to follow in our own laugh landscape. One of those is the improv group Don't Watch This Show LIVE, whose monthly showcases include 90 minutes of completely original comedy, ranging from sketches to standup, music videos, and Broadway-style performances. With influences like Tim & Eric and Mr. Show, the troupe provides a dose of hilarity in unexpected packages every month. Tonight features guest Scott Simpson, a local comedian and winner of the Podcast Award for best comedy podcast for his showYou Look Nice Today. If you know comedians, you'll know they're self-deprecating, so of course their command for you to not watch is exactly the opposite. You won't regret it.

Get your laugh on at 8 p.m. at PianoFight, 144 Taylor St., S.F. $15; dwtslive.com or pianofight.com.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
