When the ancient Polynesians invented surfing, they often used a paddle to help them navigate. Fast-forward a few millennia, and Stand-Up Paddleboarding, or SUP, finds itself trendy again. Part of its increasing popularity is that standing upright allows surfers to spot waves more easily and thus catch more of them, multiplying the fun factor. Paddling back to the wave becomes less of a strain as well. The ability to cruise along on flat inland water, surveying the sights, is another advantage. Finally, its a good core workout. If youre sold on the idea, schedule an intro SUP lesson, free with board and paddle rental, and you may find yourself riding the waves like a Polynesian king.More
Many of us remember coming home from our elementary schools with freshly glazed pinchpots, cups, or whatever else our young imaginations could conjure up. Saturday mornings at the Randall Museum can bring that memory back, or create a new one for the youngsters. Ceramics make great gifts — especially on Mothers' and Fathers' Day. Hop on board for the Randall's once-weekly class, and for $6 and two weeks to have your work fired and glazed, you'll have all the materials you need.More

Mashing up different world cuisines is usually a popular conceit for new quick-service eateries and food trucks to make a quick buck and gain Instagram fame, but Volta has shown how well global cross-pollination works on a refined plate without stretching for novelty or pretense in the process.

Summer is here. Kids are mowing lawns, pining for romance, sneaking out, and waiting to pack their bags and head off for camp. Who doesn’t love the magical, hazy nostalgia of Camp? Meeting new friends, trying new activities, stealing kisses after sunset, and having the time of your life.
Today, Camp DIRTYBIRD unveils the first phase of the musical magic that will soundtrack this year’s DIRTYBIRD Campout. Campout’s lineup embodies the free-wheeling dancefloor spirit of the DIRTYBIRD label, complete with the wry curveballs that has kept the label on the cutting edge of electronic music for over a decade.
A headlining set from the unpredictably wild yet always hilarious Reggie Watts, an elusive live performance from Paranoid London, the classic UK house music of Jesse Rose, Machinedrum’s footwork bass, the first-ever US set by Brazilian phenom Bruno Furlan... and that’s just scratching the surface. Also on tap are the talents of the ever-expanding DIRTYBIRD family, including Catz n Dogz, Christian Martin, Worthy, J.Phlip, Kill Frenzy, Shiba San, Walker & Royce, Sage Armstrong and more.
Whether you’re watching the day break at the after-hours stage or taking in the afternoon glow of the setting sun at the mainstage, you’re going to be treated to music from an absolute all-star crew. Simply put, it’s like the world’s best DJs packed up their gear, headed to Camp, and invited you.
As much as the magic of Campout’s musical offerings might bewitch, it wouldn’t be Camp without the games and activities. Feel the rope in your hand as you go up against Christian Martin in Tug-Of-War, chow down on BBQ with all the fixins alongside Grillson and make sure to duck when you’re playing dodgeball against J.Phlip! Even more, the Camp Counselors will return to cheer on their Campers in the boat races, kickball and the now-notorious Talent Show. Keep your eyes peeled for more surprise activities to be announced next Tuesday.
Going to Camp is even easier this year with installment plans and Camp Buses available from LAX...no excuses.
