Did I Enjoy Myself?

As a society, we don't take enough walks. Carol Selter will take one for you. The artist asks people where they like to walk, takes their walk, arrives home refreshed, then packages that refreshment into a full-color book of photographs she snapped along the way, allowing faux-hikers to enjoy their non-walks anywhere they please. The fake-hikers also report feeling pretty good, like they're on a walk, when Selter is taking their walk. We see a big future for this: Maybe Selter can get Steve Jobs to outsource his retirement. The solo show "Carol Selter: The Personal Hiking Project" details these roads not taken, and comes on the heels of her previous nature-themed exhibits in the gallery. For one, she took photos of the plants and pests in her garden for a year. In another, she took striking photos of 26-year-old dead fetal pigs she found in a laboratory (Setlter has a MA is biology and works as an animal technician). This is someone you want walking your walk.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
