Oakland artist Robb Putnam takes bits of trash and makes dogs out of them. Really good dogs. It's easy to see how things could go rotten, however, because Putnam makes his dogs out of bits of old blankets, rags, plastic bags, thread, that sort of junk, which he sort of packs together — actually, we don't know how he does it. Probably magic, because you'll want to rescue one at his solo show, "Orphans," and give it a hot bath and a steak, because you have a heart. His dogs look forlorn, of course, because they're made out of trash, but also cuddly, because they're dogs. They also look scary and evil, just because. Detritus dogs are complex animals, to be sure. One possibly cuddly beast (if you're a rescuing type), Foundling, made out of fabric, vinyl, leather, thread, string, cord, glue, and mixed media, looks like a more put-together version of the late Miss Ellie, the World's Ugliest Dog 2009. Robb Putnam is like an outsider artist without the batshit-crazy part.

An opening reception starts at 5 p.m.
July 15-Aug. 21, 2010

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
