Consider synchronized swimming: This beautiful sport allegedly has its origins in Greek and Roman amphitheaters, like so many San Francisco activities. The exquisite muscle and breath control, the symmetry, and the dazzle of aqua waters: all these make the sport attractive to both spectators and participants. The San Francisco Merionettes, a synchronized swim team active since 1956, welcome everyone from developing swimmers to seasoned synchro stars. The Merionettes annual Youth Synchronized Swimming Exhibition allows adolescent participants to exhibit the routines theyve developed for the 2009 season; also look for on-site registration for the Merionette summer swim program, which guides participants through stroke technique and beginning synchronized swimming skills.
