Sugarplum Crazy

The Dance-Along Nutcracker may well be the only holiday event where attendees rent tutus for the occasion, dancing with klutzy glee under the spotlight. Presented by the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band, and popular with all ages, the event consists of a professionally performed stage show combined with public-participatory zaniness. When the “Dance-Along” sign lights up, audience members, often wearing tutus or costumes, can pirouette to their heart’s content. (Experience and grace are not required.) To keep the event fresh, organizers come up with a new theme and narrative every year. The current show, The Nutcracker of Oz, features ideas and material from The Wizard of Oz, The Wiz, and Wicked, along with Nutcracker music by Tchaikovsky. “Impromptu” and “hilarious” surprises are promised.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
