Concert preview: Atoms for Peace
Atoms for Peace will get seismic on songs from The Eraser, unreleased material, and Radiohead B-sides at the Fox Theater in Oakland on Wednesday, April 14, and Thursday, April 15. 8 p.m., sold out; www.anotherplanetent.com.
On his solo debut, The Eraser, Thom Yorke named a song "Atoms for Peace," after a 1953 speech by President Dwight D. Eisenhower promoting the peaceful applications of atomic energy. Yorke has since pulled together a band under the Atoms for Peace moniker — a group that includes Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, producer/multi-instrumentalist Nigel Godrich, Beck drummer Joey Waronker, and percussionist Mauro Refosco. Together they'll break apart Yorke's stark, laptop-synthesized material and transform it into chunky, funky bliss-outs.
