The second installment of our 2019 Shenson Faculty Concert Series, CMC piano faculty member Jon Jang presents: Come Sunday:The Music of Duke Ellington in Celebration of his 120th Birthday, featuring the works of Duke Ellington. Because the title “Come Sunday” refers to a recording by Duke Ellington and Mahalia Jackson celebrating African American people’s struggle to have their own church, the program will also feature songs that Mahalia Jackson sang in the context of the black church.

The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
