Clubs preview: Poirier

Wednesday, May 26 2010

During Carnaval in the Caribbean, it's impossible to ignore the frantic outdoor parades and blasting soca and dancehall sound systems. Montreal global bass producer Poirier has taken that vibe and melded it with explosive tropical-electro productions on a series of recent EPs featuring vocals from Canada's Face-T, America's MC ZULU, and Jamaica's Burro Banton. The reaction has been universally positive, leading to a slew of DJ gigs and a new album, Running High. Poirier lets his hyper dancehall, grime, and throbbing bass tracks do the talking. He'll join talented locals Maneesh the Twister, Kid Kameleon, Kush Arora, Ripley, and more at the Surya Dub Three-Year Anniversary.

Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
