Cinematic Quickies

Wednesday, Sep 21 2011
How sexy can you get in seven minutes? For most of us, that question lost its urgency as soon as we discovered kinkier games than Spin the Bottle. For the past six years, though, the Independent Erotic Film Festival has encouraged filmmakers from around the world to make an art out of time-challenged porn. The IXFF climaxes tonight with the Short Erotic Film Competition, when smutty cineastes Carol Queen and Peaches Christ emcee an evening of dirty movies, each seven minutes or less. If you feel slightly guilty about watching all this filth, don’t worry — the evening includes entries from Mexico, Israel, France, and Britain, and everyone knows you get a pass when it’s foreign film. A grand prize of $1,500 goes to the work that gets the loudest applause. The screening is preceded by a Barbary Coast pre-party that includes prizes at the “Wheel of Pleasure,” a photo booth, and burlesque performers.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
