CHOMP! They Came from the Swamp Sponsored

When: Tue., June 24 and Sun., Oct. 19 2014
Fall prey to some of the plant kingdom's most alluring and murderous creations this spring as the carnivores return to Golden Gate Park's beloved Conservatory of Flowers in a new exhibit, CHOMP! They Came from the Swamp. On view now, CHOMP! offers a swampy paradise for hundreds of meat-eating plants, like the sinister pitcher plants of Borneo, the glistening sundews of South Africa and the sinuously curved cobra lilies of California. With many rare and unusual varieties, even the most squeamish will be captivated by the extraordinary beauty and diversity of plants on display. Large models of several species throughout the exhibit also give visitors a taste of what it might be like to be a tiny insect in a world of towering meat eaters waiting for their next meal. Volunteer-led demonstration “feedings” and plant dissections will also take place throughout the run of the exhibit. "Carnivorous plants are one of the sure-fire ways to get people excited about plants," says Lau Hodges, Director of Operations and Exhibitions. "The exhibit gives visitors a fun bug's eye view of the plants, but also helps people understand why they have adapted to attract, capture and eat prey. It's one of the most amazing and irresistible stories of plant evolution there is!"

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
