Braza
Revel in heated percussion and sultry singers at Braza, Friday, June 3, at Som Bar. 10 p.m., $5-$10; www.som-bar.com.
No need to drop a G on a ticket to São Paulo; save your dollars and samba over to Braza. The nearly-2-year-old monthly party on first Fridays at Som Bar plays host to expat Brazilians and those who love the nation's grooves. Resident DJs Vanka, Kento, and Elan often explore deeper regional sounds like forró, batucada, and Tropicália alongside traditional bossa nova and house and hip-hop hybrids. This month the Braza crew is joined by primo Los Angeles photographers and filmmakers Brian "B+" Cross and Eric Coleman, producers of the 2002 Brasilintime documentary and dozens more. In addition to their work running the Mochilla studio and label, the two are serious record fiends and plan to share their funkiest South American selections.
