Blockhead: Show Preview

Friday, Jul 12 2013

New York's Blockhead produces a style of funky, psychedelic hip-hop that counts DJ Shadow as its deity and Amon Tobin, Thievery Corporation, and Danger Mouse (among others) as patron saints. Blockhead is not new to the game, though, having contributed downtempo foundations to Aesop Rock, Slug, and Murs, and instrumentals to several albums for venerable label Ninja Tune. Drawing from Boogie Down Productions, disco, and Southern rap, Blockhead sits comfortably in the same ether as Large Professor's dense, drum 'n' bass haze and DJ Vadim's heavy-lidded breakbeats. So expect a celebration of crate-digging's 1990s heyday when Blockhead comes to the Ritual party at Mighty.
