Big Top Romance

Wednesday, Oct 30 2013
Amaluna, the latest touring production from Cirque du Soleil, is all about beauty, grace, and feminine power. The show takes place on a mysterious island of the same title, where the queen, Prospera, is preparing for the coming-of-age rite of her young daughter Miranda. She summons a magic storm, and a marriageable prospect, Romeo, appears. Romeo is ready and willing, but not everyone on the island is thrilled. Cali, the half-man half-lizard pet of Miranda, is jealous, and the Peacock, Moon and Balance Goddesses all have mixed feelings about the upcoming nuptials. These misgivings lead to a series of circus-y adventures for the young couple. If this all sounds a bit artsy for a night under the big top, don't worry. Combining circus and theater is Cirque's specialty. For example, Miranda uses her hand-balancing skills to impress Romeo, Cali celebrates his small victories by juggling, and the Moon Goddess floats through the air on an aerial hoop.
Fridays, Saturdays. Starts: Nov. 16. Continues through Dec. 29, 2013

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
