Best Tourist Trinket Shop

Warming Hut

This classy alternative to the Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf souvenir schlock shops has everything in-the-know tourists need to impress the folks back home. Postcards, mugs, and T-shirts embossed with the GGNRA's lovely Deco poster art. Books on Mark Twain, Playland-at-the-Beach, the Giants, and the best local places to surf, hike, and birdwatch. Water-powered clocks and solar-powered lanterns. Handcrafted soaps and candles. Cookbooks from local restaurants, Prohibition Brewery beer mugs, DVDs of Vertigo and The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill. Recycled jewelry, duffels, wallets, scarves, and hoodies; even locally made teas, chocolates, preserves, and crostini. The Hut also serves a nice selection of organic soups, salads, sandwiches, and free-trade coffee, which you can enjoy at picnic tables looking out on the water, the islands, and the Golden Gate. The handsome wood-planked buidling, a circa-1909 Army storehouse near the mouth of the bay, was carefully refurbished after a fire a few years back.
