Best Specialty Market & Butcher Shop

Avedano's Holly Park Market

Avedano's, the recent resurrection of a location that has been home to a variety of food businesses for more than a century, houses a variety of food businesses itself. It provides necessities for the locals and temptations to draw the gastrotourists. There's a full-service butcher shop, boasting cases full of grass-fed beef and lamb, free-range fowl, and sustainably caught fish and shellfish. The refrigerator holds organic dairy items, imported sodas, and organic baby-food purees. The fresh fruits and vegetables come from local farms. Artfully arranged displays of fancy oils, vinegars, jams, preserved fruits, pickles, spices, candies, and cookies are perfect for gifts. Prepared items include rotisserie chickens, vegetable sides (perhaps a potato gratin or roasted Brussels sprouts), and daily-changing soups, as well as paninis grilled to order. Consult menus online to learn which tasty main course will be available to pick up daily at 4 pm: Monday's Bolognese lasagna, which comes with green salad, feeds two generously for $10.50.
