When you turn on your local sports radio show, you expect to hear guys like KNBR's Rick Barry spouting wisdom such as "Defense wins championships" and "So-and-so needs to use his off-hand more in the low post." What you don't expect is an aging white guy reciting 50 Cent lyrics or lamenting the drop in programming quality on the BET network; you don't expect discourse on the subject of Paris Hilton versus Britney Spears; you don't expect Gary Radnich. It's not that Radnich doesn't know about sports -- he does -- but, as he's fond of saying, "I got a family to feed," i.e., I've gotta talk about stuff that's interesting to people, i.e., let's talk about how Beyoncé is going to ditch Jay-Z as soon her star eclipses his. A veritable institution in the San Francisco sports world, through both his radio show and his nightly broadcasts on KRON-TV news, Radnich is also its most affable bozo. Even if you loathe sports radio, his opinions on hip hop, fashion, slang, and more are worth tuning in to.
